Why does DT Max deny the Quebec medical expenses deduction to a couple if the work-related income of one spouse is less than $2,500?

This is an optimization problem with respect to the combination of Quebec tax systems that is the most advantageous for the couple.

As a workaround, use the keyword Optimize in the file of the spouse who will be claiming the medical expenses, and select the option Claim medical expenses for all family members.

However, if you wish to claim a specific amount that is different from the one obtained with Optimize , use the keyword Override on line 36 of schedule B and enter the desired amount.
